Climate Science Hackathon 2017

The Data Science Initiative held a Climate Science Hackathon on April 29 and 30, 2017. The event brought together 40 students from a variety of backgrounds to investigate the following topics in earth systems science—California’s drought, Arctic sea ice, and West Coast wildfires. Data relating to each topic was provided for each of the 12 teams to use and creatively visualize and/or analyze with statistical or machine learning techniques. At the end of the Hackathon teams gave brief presentations, and a panel of judges will selected the three best projects.

The organizers would like to thank everyone that participated in the Hackathon and encourage you to check out the winning teams’ members and the projects they worked on.

The winners were Team Pluripotent (Best in Show), Team 154, and Team Cat. Read more about each team on their respective pages.
